About Girls in Data

Empowering young women to explore, learn, and excel in the world of data through community, education, and inspiration.

Our Story

Girls in Data is a volunteer run charity with a mission to inspire one million girls by 2030 to pursue careers in data. Our volunteers deliver engaging inspiration sessions covering a wide range of topics designed to make data fun, accessible, and relatable. Through positive and approachable role models, we aim to show girls that a future in data is not only possible, but exciting and empowering.

Girls in Data was born from the passion and commitment of the community within Women in Data®. What began as a bold idea supported by an early and smaller version of our current curriculums has since grown into a standalone organisation, officially becoming a registered charity (1206234) in December 2023. Girls in Data would not exist without the incredible network of role models in Women in Data®, whose ongoing support helps us pursue our mission of inspiring the next generation to explore and thrive in the world of data.

Lindsay Pellow – Chair & Trustee

Lindsay is Chair of Girls in Data and a Fractional Data and Analytics Director.

After initially aspiring to study medicine, she began her career in data by accident after her mum saw an advert for an Operational Research Analyst in the call centre she worked in, where Lindsay herself had previously had a weekend job. Although she didn’t at the time know what Operational Research was, she discovered the power of data to address real business challenges during the interview process and was hooked.

Lindsay has since built a career across retail, financial services, and affiliate marketing, and is committed to supporting young women and girls in understanding and pursuing opportunities in data and tech.

Jenny Wilkins – Founding Trustee

Jenny is a trustee of Girls in Data and a Senior Data Analytics consultant. She is driven to inspire others, leave a positive impact on the world, and was key last year in getting Girls in Data registered as a charity.

In school, Jenny felt unconvinced with the career paths presented to her. Then she met Sven, an IoT developer, who in just one afternoon sparked curiosity with a world of mysterious technology and data on shoppers in a city centre – a relatable topic that would interest most 16-year-old girls. She had no idea of his job title, let alone the industry or sector, but she knew wanted to do something like that! Girls in Data aims to give young people the same excitement and direction about data, and showcase the diversity of pathways this can lead them to.

Jenny is extremely passionate about sustainability, which is mirrored both in her personal and professional life. She plans to specialise in data driven sustainability solutions with hopes to add her small segment towards saving the world.

Tori Tompkins – Founding Trustee

Tori’s involvement with Girls in Data began several years before the charity was officially founded. After graduating from university and entering the data industry, she quickly became aware of its severe gender imbalance, an issue she felt compelled to challenge. Within just three months of starting her career, Tori created and delivered her first school workshop using a self-made. That early initiative ultimately became the backbone of Girls in Data’s first formal curriculum.

Now a Principal AI Consultant, Tori brings her industry expertise and deep commitment to equity together to champion the next generation of women in data and AI. She is passionate about inspiring young girls to see themselves in the industry and ensuring they have meaningful pathways into the world of data and technology.

Ella Ovenden – Founding Trustee

My WHY for being a trustee for Girls in Data, is that it's something I didn't have at school and only by chance fell into what I do today yet it feels like my natural calling now. I truly stand by 'you can't be what you can't see' - 60% of women working in STEM careers have been inspired by role models, compared to only 46% of men. Girls in Data is about increasing the visibility of female role models in the industry, breaking gender stereotypes and empowering girls to believe they can and are needed in this male-dominated industry. I currently work as a Senior AI & Data Analytics Consultant, helping clients to unlock AI's potential to drive innovation and transform their business.

Ffion Acland – Regional Lead

Having always been a numbers girl growing up, she pursued a career in finance, beginning within the Operations division and through different opportunities finding herself in the Data organisation; holding roles in modelling, governance and now analytics. Her passion for seeing more girls and women pursue careers in STEM, and specifically data, drives her to find ways of connecting those who may not hear or be exposed to the possibilities.

Gyeyok Haruna - Admin Volunteer

Gyeyok is an Admin Volunteer for Girls in Data and a Data Governance & Management Executive. She brings a thoughtful, structured approach to her work, paired with a genuine desire to help people find clarity and confidence in their own journeys.

Her love for numbers began early driven by curiosity and a natural pull toward solving things. That path led her into finance, where she quickly realised that every insight and every decision was powered by data. Exploring beyond the traditional boundaries of accounting opened her eyes to the wider world of data, and she knew she wanted to be part of shaping it.

At Girls in Data, Gyeyok supports the organisation’s operations with intention, helping create the structure needed for meaningful impact. She believes deeply in the mission: helping young people see the breadth of opportunities available in data and giving them the spark of direction she once wished she had. Alongside her corporate work, she also shares thoughtful career insights that blend clarity with storytelling, always aiming to help others navigate work with purpose.
